We then went to Wal-Mart to buy some Champagne for tonight, and some groceries. After we got back, I went back to sleep for a while, and then I walked Brandy. It was pretty cold out, but not so cold that I needed a heavy jacket or anything.
Later on, I started making food for our small New Year's Eve buffet. I cut up celery, carrots, cucumber, green bell peppers, some small red and orange bell peppers, and some zucchini. I had bought a Greek Yogurt cucumber dill dip that was pretty good, too. A few weeks ago I had discovered this yummy healthy snack made by Harvest Snaps, they're green peas, but they're crunchy, taste pretty good and come in different flavors. This week I found they make a similar snack with red lentils, so I put those out as well. I also put out green olives with pimento, some mozzarella sticks wrapped with prosciutto, and a small bowl of Doritos. I rolled up some turkey meat with a green onion-flavored cream cheese. I spread some GF crackers with some garlic spread. I also baked some chicken taquitos (frozen from Goya) and some plantains (also from Goya). It was all very good, and fairly healthy. We stuffed ourselves.
We had a nice buy low-key New Year's Eve. We watched a Dave Chappelle standup show that we hadn't seen before, and then we watched some old "Twilight Zone" episodes that were showing on Syfy. We also had some wine and other drinks, and then we had Champagne, of course, at midnight, as we watched the ball drop on TV. Yay! A good night. We didn't hear a ton of fireworks outside, which surprised me.
I'm still watching the holiday movies I recorded on my DVR! I just have a few left. I don't mind watching them after the holidays... especially the good ones. Oh, I was watching this Hallmark movie "Catch a Christmas Star" from 2013, and the Ask Jeeves balloon from the Macy's parade showed up at the very beginning, in the stock footage! So weird.
Here's a video of me toasting the new year while we watch the ball drop on TV (SO exciting! LOL!)
David went to bed pretty soon after the new year. I went to bed about 1:30am.
I woke up around 11 and made some breakfast for David. Then I went back to sleep. I got up pretty late, after 1pm. I was very tired! I probably had too many carbs last night, so it knocked me out.
I walked Brandy and then had breakfast. After a rest, we took down the outdoor decorations. It took awhile because I had a lot of stuff. I still have quite a few things inside to take down. I hope to do it this week because I don't want it hanging around again like last year. I hope to get the place cleaned next week, too.
I've just been working on stuff for my site, other than that, and doing a few other things on my to-do list, and chatting with friends online, as well as watching TV.
I was watching the new "Doctor Who" special, which is always great. One of the characters was opening up about his childhood and said that after his mother died, his father got rid of all of her things. He realized that this was his father's way of dealing with his grief. I was a bit sad listening to that because my dad did that as well. Well, worse, he got rid of many of MY things as well, plus many family photos.
My kitchen is a disaster, so I had to clean that as well. I still plan to make myself more GF and low-carb cookies.
For 2019 I plan to:
I napped a lot today, so I'm sure I'll be up too late as usual!
Yep, I was up until about 8 in the morning. I stayed up in part because I couldn't sleep, and also because I had to phone the doctor's office to make sure that she called in my prescription refills for David to pick up.
Today was David's first day back to work. He loves his job, but no one really likes going back to work when they're on vacation...
Another bird flew into our house today! It flew in through the garage door when he was getting the car out. It flew in to the kitchen. Luckily, it flew out pretty quickly. Last time it took us a good 15 minutes to convince it to leave. It was a little bigger than the last one. I didn't get a picture or even a good look at it because it was flying around. Fortunately, it didn't make a mess, either.
I was going to walk the dog, but it was pouring. I should have walked her before I went to sleep. Oh, well. I ended up sleeping until about 5:30pm. Too late!
For some reason, our mail carrier lately has left a few packages over by our garage door, rather than right on the porch. I mean, I have no way of seeing that area without going outside, and it's not a good place because David could accidentally drive over it as he comes in at night. The porch is closer to the mailbox, so that makes no sense, anyway. Today he did that again, and the only reason I even looked for the package is that Amazon said it had been left. It was pouring rain today, so the package got soaked. I wasn't too happy to have to go out in the rain again, either!
I took down quite a few of the Christmas decorations today. I just have the living room, sunroom, small dining area off the kitchen, and the dining room left to do. That includes the tree. I want to get it done, but I can't do it all at once...it's too hard for me.
I watched more Christmas movies, including "Holiday Inn" that I recorded for my SIL. Wow, what an awful movie that is. Not a very good plot, and it's so dated (and has some racist parts). Yikes. The music and dancing is good, but that's about it.
I did a lot of work on my site as well. I'm trying to do better! Part of the problem lately has just been that I'm so tired all the time. And also, I seem to just waste the first 3 or 4 hours doing nothing after I wake up. I'm very good at making lists, but I'm even better at procrastination!
I also have been updating my recipes page with the cookies I've been making and some other recipes.
I stayed up until about 3:30am...
So, I slept about 12 hours. I really didn't want to get out of bed. It's been cold and rainy the past two days. Yuck.
I had a weird dream about the characters from "Supernatural" last night, I dreamed I was part of Sam and Dean's team. There was some awful demon that I could see and hear, but they couldn't. Then they had trouble hearing me, too. In fact, they couldn't hear me (or didn't believe me) when I get telling them about the demon. The demon's name was "Lulu," so I kept trying to get around it by saying "Leelee" or "Lolo," but nothing worked. I know there was a fight scene, and I picked up a crow bar or something like that, so I could fight off whatever it was that was attacking us. I think I also had to convince someone with special powers to help us fight the demon (she didn't want to help or didn't believe in her powers). I wish I could remember the rest! This is what comes from watching so much TV. :)
Poor Brandy hasn't been able to walk, due to the rain.
I still need to finish catching up with these blogs! I'm still doing the ones in November. Writing what's going on is not the hard part. Proofreading it, adding in stuff I forgot, and putting in the photos is what takes up so much time.
David and I went to El Compadre. He likes their tacos. I just ate a few chips and watched him eat. I usually get a soda to go, which I like. I was very sick earlier in the afternoon, from something I ate, so the last thing I wanted to do is risk any more.
So far I have been eating too much, and too many sweets. Not a good start to my New Year!
I tried calling our local post office, but I just kept getting the message that says they're open 7 to 4:30, as if they're closed (even though it was only 4:10). They don't even have voice mail. I was going to try to ask them not to leave any more packages by the garage.
I made a doctor's appointment for tomorrow afternoon. My left fingers that I hurt about a month and a half ago are still bothering me. They're still stiff and sometimes hurt. Speaking of which, I still am taking Mucinex for the leftover gunk from my sinus infection. It's getting a lot better, though.
I hope to take down more decorations tonight...we'll see!
I start back at school in a week. I will enjoy it as long as it doesn't keep raining. It's supposed to let up and only rain on Monday, but we'll see what happens.
One of my classes, Advanced Speech, is TBA and doesn't meet regularly. I'm not really sure how that works. I'll be asking the professor next week when I see him for my other class.
I took down all of the decorations in the living room, so I only have a few more rooms to go.
I stayed up until about 8 am. I just couldn't sleep before that. I kept trying. Then I had trouble sleeping, and also, I got some phone calls.
I planned to wake up at 10am, but when the alarm went off, I was just too tired. I phoned and canceled my doctor's appointment. I kind of wish I hadn't, though. I just don't always make the most rational decisions when I'm sleepy. I will have to call on Monday and reschedule it.
I woke up again about 4:45pm. I jumped out of bed and got ready so I could take Brandy for her walk. It gets dark about 5:30. I rushed through the walk, half-asleep. It was perfect weather with no wind. We got back about 5:11.
I didn't eat "breakfast" right away. About 6pm I cooked up some bacon. I had a half-BLT sandwich (well, no tomatoes), and I made some for David, too, since he came home not too long after that.
I've been trying to get through these blogs (I'm about 6 weeks behind right now). I write up what happens, but I always forget stuff, so I go through my Facebook posts to see if I left anything out. I'm really hoping I can get caught up before I go back to school this week, but that may not be realistic.
I've been watching "Stargate SG-1" on my DVR and deleting it as I go. I watched some of it many years ago, but I don't remember where I stopped watching, and the episodes are not that familiar since it was over a decade ago! I enjoy them a lot.
I had a salad for lunch with some of the bacon. It was very good. I also made some of my chocolate crinkle cookies, but I made them with Splenda instead of powdered sugar. The batter was a bit dry, so I added water. I probably should have added more egg instead because the cookies came out very flat. They still taste good, though.
I went through some of my cookbooks, too, because we're inviting our friends Helmut and Beth over for dinner sometime soon. I'm trying to decide what I want to make. I think I've narrowed it down to either Asian Dim Sum, Swedish meatballs with noodles and salad, or pot roast with spinach and other sides.
I wasn't tired, so I worked through the night on the blogs and other things, while watching TV. For dinner I just had some prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella sticks and some sliced veggies with dip. Brandy is not as picky of an eater as Bugs was. She actually will eat some veggies if they have dip on them, like bell peppers, carrots and celery!
Brandy and I went out walking just after the sun came up. It was very cold out, 30 degrees. Brrr! No wind, thankfully. I bundled up in my heavy coat, scarf, hat and mittens, and I was still pretty cold. It was very frosty out. Too bad there was no snow!
I had some hot chocolate when I came back. I might have to sleep some before lunch...we'll see!
I did end up going to bed, and I slept until 4. Then I got up and walked Brandy again. Fortunately, it was in the 60's, much warmer. What a contrast! I don't know if I'll ever get used to the huge jumps in temperature here. It's still cold in my house, so I have the heat on most of the time.
David mailed some packages for me. Well, they were returns, which is pretty easy.
Brandy is so good now about staying on our bed and not causing a fuss while I'm sleeping. She really likes being up there, so she always behaves now. It's very rare that I have to chain her up because she's being too hyper and annoying on the bed.
I looked for the bank calendar, found it and put it up. I also put up the new calendars I bought on Amazon. I need to get one more...
I dreamed that there were collectible "General Hospital" figures, but I was having trouble finding them all. Yesterday I had a weird dream that my brother visited me, and then he surprised me that we were on a game show. You had to answer questions about how much you know the other person. Kind of like "The Newlywed Game," but with other family members. Anyway, it turned out that it really wasn't my brother, but someone imitating him, and I had been duped! It was a totally different type of show, like Candid Camera or something. My real brother came in and I was so shocked that someone had imitated him so well! Conan O'Brien was somehow involved in it, too.
We had another video chat with our friend Barb, who lives in Fargo. We didn't have enough time back on Christmas Eve because she and David both had to go to bed early. We chatted for about 3 hours! It was fun, though.
David went to bed not too long after, and I went, too, but then I woke up around 2:30am. It was too early for me to get a whole night's sleep.
Brandy's been eating a lot more lately. I hope I'm feeding her enough and she doesn't get fat.
I had breakfast and did quite a bit of work. I took Brandy out twice to walk. Once again, it was very cold in the morning (about 36), and then nice in the afternoon.
I'm a bit overwhelmed again by everything I have to do... I guess that just happens sometimes. Too much to do, all the time. I take on too much.
I managed to stay up until the afternoon. We went to Java Primo so he could eat lunch, and then we went to Wal-Mart, as usual, for the groceries. He stopped at Wendy's for me. I shouldn't eat there, but it sure sounded good.
We worked on our scrapbooks. We used to keep them regularly, but he likes doing it, so I let him (I help sort some stuff). He's been too busy for many years, so I just kept collecting stuff. Problem is that receipts fade, and I never kept track of where/when things are from. He just made a stream-lined scrapbook from where we left off in 2009, up to 2014. It took a few weekends, but at least it's done now.
I only slept for a few hours' nap. We went out later to Antigua's as usual, so he could have dinner. I went to bed really early, around 10 or 11.
I took down all of the rest of the decorations in the sunroom, small dining room and small guest bathroom. David brought in all the boxes for me, so I can start putting stuff away.
