I hope you all had a Happy 4th!
I had a horrible horrible time sleeping last night because of allergies. I was pretty congested in the evening, so I took a Sudafed. Maybe that kept me awake? I don't know. I tried going to bed about 3am, but I just wasn't tired. My eyes were watering a lot, too. Then later, when I did go to bed about 5 am, I was itching a lot. I woke up around 7, coughing quite a bit, so I took one of my prescription coughing pills and drank a lot of water before going back to sleep. Then I woke up again around 9, coughing a bit more, and having a hard time sleeping, even though I was very tired. I read my email and social media for a little bit. Then I took some Robitussin and Claritin, and went to bed. UGH. (This happens all the time after I get a cold...it takes a while for this congestion to completely go away.)
Then I was having weird dreams and nightmares. David woke me up after 1pm and I was still very tired. I really want a nap, but I'm going to try to stay up.
We went to McDonald's for lunch and then got a few things at Wal-Mart. Not too exciting for a holiday...ah, well, hopefully next summer will be more interesting.
Lately, my browsers have been freezing up. It's so annoying!
Something is very frustrating to me right now. I bought these nightstands on Amazon, and it turns out that they're impossible to put together. I'm either going to have to send them back, or pay someone to put them together. Grrr!
They did have some fireworks tonight...I can hear them outside. Most were Sunday night, though.
We spent most of the day just watching the "Twilight Zone" marathon on Syfy. I got very sleepy around 11 and went to bed early for a change.
I woke up coughing around 7 am and couldn't get back to sleep. Maybe I'll take a nap later.
I emailed Amazon and they're willing to give me 30% of the cost of the nightstands back, so that'll help, I guess, since I probably have to pay someone to put them together. At least they didn't cost me too much, since I used my Amazon Visa card points. Update: Amazon said they'll give me 50% refunded!! Wow!!
A few nights ago, I somehow managed to scratch my face in my sleep. One scratch was fairly deep and it's in a painful spot right next to my nose. UGH. I don't know how I do these things.
I had put together a new Tablemate, which is a small cheap desk that you can use over your lap. I always buy one when we move (not worth mailing from the previous place) and it's super-easy to put together. It doesn't work well with this sectional, though. The legs don't fit underneath unless I put up the recliner, and then it's difficult. I guess I'll have to wait and use it if we get another chair. I like it because it keeps the weight and heat of the laptop off my legs.
I was researching online, and you can buy furniture already put together, but of course it's much more expensive.
If I'm too lazy to find something to watch, I get stuck watching the Food Network. I had no idea that Trisha Yearwood has a cooking show. It's deadly to watch...so much fat and calories! Like I need more of either...
I went back to sleep and then slept way too late. UGH. I'll be up late again. Then I just wasted time web surfing and chatting with an online friend. I'll have to do some stuff after dinner because I feel too guilty otherwise, just sitting around, doing nothing.
David's picking up McDonald's for dinner. I'm pretty sick of McDonald's. I really was already sick of it before we came here... I ate it way too often in Hawaii. They only have a few things I can eat. I would prefer Sonic, but he doesn't like Sonic because you sit and wait, rather than go through a drive-thru. Mostly he just hates waiting. I don't really like Burger King very much, either. The only other choices are all places where I can't eat the food, like fried chicken or Taco Bell. We could use an Arby's or Wendy's! The university has a Chik Fil-A, but it's not a drive-thru, either. They do have Flying Burger, but I'm kind of tired of that, too, although I should probably try their fish instead of the burgers, or their grilled chicken.
I'm investigating now, and it looks like this local chain Chicken Express actually has gluten free fried fish filets! I'm going to have to try that. Also, we have a Dairy Queen and I love their foods. I haven't been there in a long time, and it looks to be mostly gluten free.
Most of the food here is burgers, pizza, sandwiches, BBQ, fried catfish and fried chicken... so I have to be really careful what I eat. This restaurant Andy's Place looks good...I emailed them to see what I can eat.
I'm trying to set up a new post office box. It's irritating because you can't really buy one online. You can apply, and pay for it, but you have to go to the post office and show 2 forms of ID, and fill out another form, before they'll give you one. Well, at least the one post office in town is open for two hours on Saturday.
It was 99 degrees when I checked today, with 57% humidity. I'm sure glad to have a/c and don't miss our hot apartment in Honolulu! I do miss living in the big city and not having easy access to the post office, restaurants etc. But it's ok, I don't mind staying at home during the week, at least for now.
I finally went through a large pile of papers I've had sitting here for a while, and through some DVD's, and I'm doing the laundry.
Poor David...he has to be at work by 7 and can't leave until at least 5:30. It's going to be hard for him to get used to those hours again after having the last month off. He's probably not going to have time to run in the mornings, any more. I'm sure he won't miss the exercise because I know he hates it, but it's not going to be very healthy for him, either. He's a morning person, but no one wants to get up that early unless they have to.
I'm beginning to think my browser problems are due to Firefox and Chrome not getting along....SIGH. It's very frustrating because I have 2 different Facebook accounts, and 3 Twitter accounts, and I can't use them in the same browser, so I have to run 2 or 3 different browsers. So here we've got three different companies' products, Firefox by Mozilla, Chrome by Google, Windows by Microsoft, plus the Norton Antivirus and whatever else I've got running....they should work better together. Surely I'm not the only one who uses all these different programs at once?
And why is it, when I open the Task Manager, it lists Chrome 6 different times???
Normally, I hate how time flies, but I'll be very glad when August arrives, and September, too. Not because of the weather, but because I feel very unsettled right now. I can't wait to get the rest of our stuff, and buy furniture...I won't feel settled until I get the place set up the way I want it. I didn't feel that way until now because I had all of these other things to do, like unpacking our suitcases (plus being sick).
I definitely don't want to buy any more furniture online. We need to buy it in a real furniture store, so they can deliver it and set it up for us. I hate putting stuff together. No more for me! I promised I wouldn't buy any more furniture until he gets paid, at least. We're doing fine for now with what little we have, although I could use a treadmill, so I don't have to go out in the heat to exercise. We have plenty of room now for one!
Although our neighborhood is pretty quiet, the things in this house are not. The washing machine, fridge, oven and garage door are really really loud. Also, the stove and oven both take a really long time to heat up. Just little complaints...it's no big deal.
I'm happy to report that Andy's Restaurant has a lot of food I can eat....I emailed them and a very nice guy investigated for me. I can eat most of their meats, including their fried fish, which they bread with corn meal and corn flour, not wheat flour; and their salad dressings and regular BBQ sauce are also ok. Yay!
I had a lot of trouble sleeping. I went to bed very late, anyway, because I slept too much yesterday. But I kept waking up coughing. As usual, I still have a lot of congestion left over from the bronchitis, so I need to keep taking medication until it's gone.
The pest control guy came by around 1 as scheduled. He was a really nice guy. Like everyone here! Hopefully I won't see any more roaches or spiders.
David picked up take-out from Chicken Express. They also have fried fish that I can eat. It was not the best I ever had, but it wasn't bad, and I was just glad to have fried fish again. I had green beans as a side and they were very good. Now if only they could make fried chicken and hush puppies the same way! ;) It made a great sandwich later on, too. I sure wish McDonald's could make a gluten free filet of fish.
I finally practiced my guitar for the first time in almost a month! Well, I mostly had a good excuse...moving and then being sick. It came back easily, thank goodness, and my fingers still have calluses, so it wasn't painful. I play pretty quietly right now, until I get my amp.
I went to bed late again, around 5:30am. I took some Robitussin and slept peacefully through the night!
Someone from the Tuscaloosa area code called twice and woke me up, but I just shut the phone off. That's usually a wrong number. The people I know there don't call me, and the one person who might is in my contacts, so I doubt it was him.
I got up around 12:30 to use the restroom and my new phone rang. I didn't get to it in time, and they didn't leave a message. Probably another wrong number! I checked my cell and the battery had died. Oops, guess it didn't charge.
I went back to sleep until almost 3pm. Probably a bad idea.
I called the local dry cleaners...seems like there are only two. I sent the info to David via email so he can decide what he wants to do.
I also called this place we passed called Good Home Center, which said on the outside, something like "TV and Electronics," to ask them if they had someone who could put the TV's up on the wall for us. The guy replied that they would have to come by sometime after work. He got my address and phone number. I was kind of surprised by his answers, that someone would come out my way, when they could, so I forgot to ask if it was today or some other day. Hopefully they'll call first. We'll find out! He didn't want to estimate the cost over the phone, either.
I hate when this happens....my soda cup sprung a leak, and I didn't notice it at first. I have a cup holder in the sectional, so the soda was going all over the place before I even noticed. What a mess. UGH!
I had a nice long chat with a friend on Facebook :)
I've been going through all my recent pics so I can put them on Facebook. It's taking forever. I just did April. UGH, too many pictures.... Seeing all the beautiful photos of Hawaii makes me sad. I enjoyed seeing the ones of my friends in San Diego. We had such a fun time there! Especially our big karaoke night. I need to take a break. I've been sitting here too long.... I get very stiff and sore if I sit too long. Gettin' old!
I watched some TV, went through a bunch of papers, and then eventually went to bed too late again.
David woke me up about noon. We went to the Chinese buffet for lunch. There wasn't too much I could eat...most of their food has soy sauce or breading. Ah, well. Too bad. We had a really big and good buffet in Columbus that had plenty of grilled meat and salad. I miss that place. Actually, even in Hawaii, there were not too many buffets of any kind, and I couldn't eat most of the Chinese food there, either. So I'm kind of used to that. I mostly ate green beans and fried rice, and I'm hoping they were safe.
Update: I was sick all afternoon and evening from what I ate. I should have been more careful... ugh. I had an upset stomach all day, and worse. I was also very congested. Further update: I was pretty sick for 3 days.
We went to the post office after that. I mailed a couple of packages, and I tried to open my post office box. I didn't read the instructions online carefully enough. It says you need 2 valid forms of ID, so I brought my driver's license and my passport. I should have read further because it says you need one non-photo ID that has your address on it, like a lease or vehicle registration. Darn it, now we'll have to go back again. They make it way too tough.
I took a nap after that. Later, we went out to the grocery store, Brookshire Farms. Then we drove through Burger King. I thought I was buying a grilled chicken sandwich, but it' something called a chicken burger, which is not gluten free. Also, Burger King now puts wheat in their fries. Darn! I guess they're trying to be more like McDonald's because they have way better fries and put wheat in theirs, too. I miss Jack-in-the-Box...
For some reason, the online weather sites keep saying it's 100+ degrees this week, yet the local radio says the highs are around 96. I wonder why it's so different?
I tried to go to bed relatively early, but every time I lay down, my stomach felt worse. I think it was about 2 am by the time I finally went to bed for real.
I slept in and then woke up with a sore throat, but it was just from allergies and being a little dehydrated. We tried the place that we hadn't been to before, Andy's Restaurant. I had the salad bar and the BBQ pork. David had the fried fish and salad bar. The salad bar was ok. The BBQ was great! Then we picked up one of David's new suits that had been on order, and then we went to Wal-Mart for a few things.
I tried to nap after that, but I was coughing again. Still suffering from yesterday's glutenizing. :(
I've just been working on my site and not doing too much. I keep thinking it's Sunday because David was home for most of Friday. That's going to take some getting used to!
I've been eating too much, and not eating healthy, and not exercising, so I plan to fix that this week. Also, I still need to practice guitar every day.
I worked a lot on my site. I also finally tackled the big pile of cardboard boxes that needed to be broken down or dismantled and put in the trash. I did most of them. I only have a small knife, so the others are going to have to wait until I get a bigger or sharper knife.
I was feeling really energetic, so I also swept the living room, hallway and kitchen floors. I also have one cheap little broom, but it did the trick. It was time to get rid of the dirt and debris that had accumulated. The problem with having wood floors and no rugs is that you see all the dust and dirt very easily. I was just sick of looking at it, and sick of stepping on things. Also, since he sprayed, there are quite a few dead insects lying around. I also did the few dishes and cleaned up the kitchen.
I also caught up on some TV watching.
I tried to go to bed somewhat early, but I was having bad allergy problems still. I think I got to bed around 4 am.
David woke me up for lunch. We went to the nearby Mexican restaurant. It's pretty good. There were a lot of people in there this time.
We didn't really go anywhere else or do too much. We were both kind of tired. My allergies have been really bad still. I'm trying to take as much medicine now as I can, to try to get rid of all of this junk. Sweeping probably didn't help; I may have stirred up too much dust.
We mostly just watched TV and worked on the computers. I feel like I got a lot done this weekend. I swept our bedroom and back bathroom, and I did the laundry and put it all way. I even washed our bedclothes.
I'm very tired and will probably try to go to bed around 11. That's really early for me! Hopefully I can sleep through the night without coughing and get up early and keep that schedule. Maybe I can go out walking if it's not too hot.
It poured rain about 8:30! That's only the second time it's rained at all since we got here. It's been pretty dry (which is nice).
I put up the April photos I took; you can see them here in 3 different albums.
Sorry this blog is now so boring...since I mostly stay home, it's not going to vary too much, except when we travel.
Have a great week, and I hope it's not too hot for you!
