I stayed up last night until almost 4, and then I had to get up at 6:30 for a conference call. UGH. Then I had to get up again for the dry cleaning guy, and I had to do some picking up around our apartment, and then the maids are coming by sometime between 12 and 2pm. I need sleep!

Well, it was a pretty awful day.  My conference call was at 7:30, not 6:30, so I went back to bed (my fault for not getting the time-difference straight. We have no daylight savings time here, so this part of the year, we're only 2 hours behind Pacific time, not 3. It's hard for me to remember!) I was so tired, but I forced myself to get up for the call. After these calls, where I'm talking to TV actors, writers, and producers, I'm too wired to go back to sleep. They're very exciting. It was a good call, but just too early, and too many other things going on.

We recently discovered that part of the ceiling facade in the guest bedroom had fallen down...then yesterday I realized that it was from water damage. The part hanging down is about a foot long. I think what happened is that the people upstairs have a leak (probably from an a/c condenser), and they may not have even realized it was leaking because it's a small one in the corner of the room. So that leaked and went through a crack in the floor (I can see the crack in the concrete in the ceiling). It pooled there in the facade until eventually that all fell down this week, causing a big volume of water to crash through the facade and down onto our guest bed, where I have my bears. It soaked about 5 bears and the comforter, sheets, pillows, and the mattress, as well as part of the floor. There was some plaster on the bed and floor as well.

I had piled a lot of stuff on that bed, in preparation for the maids from Maid Brigade coming, so it was quite a hassle this morning. First I went downstairs and talked to the building manager, Jennifer, about the leak, so she said that they would call the tenants of that place (they're on vacation, but the management has a key, so they can go in and fix problems). I haven't heard back, so I'll have to call them tomorrow to see what's going on. So then I had to take everything OFF the bed, put the bears in the dryer, and wash the bed clothes, then pull the bed out from the wall and get as much of the plaster off the floor as I could (too small for the vacuum). Then put everything back on the bed, just not in the wet part. Hopefully the mattress will dry and not be ruined. That was just stress and aggravation I didn't need. The way I found out about it being a leak was that I was picking some stuff up off the floor in our bedroom, which shares a wall with that one, and it was wet. I'm like, What the Hell....? Then I saw some faint water dripping pattern on the wall and realized what had happened. My friend Michal on Facebook had said it was probably from water, but I didn't believe that. She was right, and I was wrong!

I spent the next 3 hours finishing cleaning up the house to get it ready for the maids, and doing some work on my site. I like to move all of our stuff out of the way to make it easier to clean.  I laid down on the couch to nap until they came... it was hard, at first, but eventually I went back to sleep. Then I woke up around 1pm. I waited, but when 3:30 came, I phoned them. I left a message on the maid's voice mail. Then I called the main office about 15 minutes to see what was going on. I was told that they were on their way.  I got more phone calls, and then there was a BIG STINK because they didn't know where to park. Here's the problem. We're downtown, and so you either have to find a metered space, or go into a parking garage. We have a small service area that they can park in, but I guess they didn't know that, and I wasn't sure you could park there longer than 20 minutes. Also, it often fills up quickly with delivery drivers and others.  So the woman on the phone was very upset because they didn't have any money. I suggested they go to the parking lot across the street, in the Chinese Cultural Center, because I think they will validate your parking if you just buy something at one of the stores there. It's like a little mall. I could barely understand the woman, and she seemed to be indicating that I should pay for parking, and that they may not be able to clean today. I was getting a little pissed off! So I phoned the main office again and asked them to talk to her and deal with this. He said that they don't carry any money with them. I felt like saying, you guys have been here quite a few times before, so you should know already that they need to have money for parking!  So finally they did park across the street, but I was told that it's a big hassle because they have to drag their equipment across the street. I'm thinking, none of this is my problem! This company is not cheap, either, they're just cheaper than some of the others I called, when I first was looking into having it cleaned.

So, when they arrived, I did suggest that maybe I could give them change, that might cover it. I had no cash other than change.  Although, I probably have about $10 in change!  I was very on edge because I was starving and tired. I showed them what needed cleaning, and then I ran over to McDonald's to get some food. I stopped at the ATM, too, so I was able to give them some cash after all. I was just really frazzled by all of the waiting around, not having enough sleep, and then the stress of having to deal with the parking problems. I know, First World problems!

I felt better once I ate. They didn't take very long to clean. There are three of them, and it's not that big of a place. I did check most of the rooms, but I should have checked the kitchen before they left. I didn't want to walk in there because it was wet. They did suggest I check everything before they leave, so that was my fault, not theirs. Turns out they didn't clean the drip pans under the burners, which were very dirty. And I don't think they vacuumed under the bed, like I asked, either. Otherwise it's fine. They give you a comment card to fill out and mail, so all I said is that they need to make sure they have money for parking because that was very irritating.

Later, I cleaned the drip pans myself. It wasn't that hard because they're non-stick. Yay!

I'm sure in some of the nicer high rises around here, they have more parking than we do. Our building is kind of the cheap one in the area (compared to the others). I was just so glad when they left. I was very hot, though (the afternoons in our apartment can get pretty hot), so I had some popsicles and read some magazines... I went to sleep around 5pm and slept for two and a half hours.

David had an event tonight, so he was gone until about 8:30, I think? I was still half asleep when he came home, but I had started putting our things back. It was nice to just relax this evening, and watch some TV. I did do some work as well, though.

I really wanted to do some singing today, but no time or energy.  That's okay.

I was texting my SIL a lot today, too. That's always fun!

  Friday January 22, 2016

I was so exhausted...went to sleep around 3, but then as usual I had itching and coughing, which made it hard to sleep for awhile.

I woke up around 12:30pm. David was home briefly to pick up his car key because he has a meeting over at the other campus.

I need to take a shower, then go downstairs and find out what's going on with that ceiling problem!

It's hot... 81 degrees today! This is too hot for January, even here. UGH.

So they didn't get hold of the owners of the apartment above us (809), so she sent a maintenance guy up to their place to check out the leak. Wow, they waited another day? Good thing it's not a fast leak...

I went down to Safeway and got a few things. I really love the low carb almond ice cream bars (CarbSmart made by Breyer's). Safeway is the only store that carries them. I got a soda, but they were out of large cups, and the straw was messed up. It's always something there with the sodas! LOL!

I've been having my usual problems with allergies/IBS. Not fun but kind of used to it.

I was watching this funny "Saturday Night Live" clip, a spoof of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" where Kylo Ren goes on "Undercover Boss." It reminded me of another problem I had with the movie.

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET, SPOILERS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SKIP DOWN!!

In the other Star Wars movies, it made sense that Anakin would turn to the dark side because he had a lot of anger. He grew up in a horrible place, where he and his mom were slaves, and he had no dad. Then his mom was killed, and the man he was getting to know as a father figure, Qui-Gon, was murdered. It's pretty clear that Ob-Wan was not the best father father. The rest of the Jedi council was not very nice or welcoming to him, either. He had a lot of anger and fear of abandonment. We know from Yoda that "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

Luke and Leia, his children, were also strong in the force, but neither turned to the dark side because they had fairly happy childhoods. Luke was restless, but not full of fear or anger. His aunt and uncle raised him right.

So why the heck did Kylo Ren take such a different path? Not to mention Rey?

Kylo had two loving parents (Han and Leia), and he was close to his Uncle Luke, who trained him as a Jedi. He had no reason to have fear or anger. I'm sorry, but his grandpa being Darth Vader is not a good reason. He didn't know his grandpa, and besides, Anakin clearly gave up the dark side in the end and regretted how his life turned out, as we saw at the end of Return of the Jedi. So why did Kylo become such a jerk? I hope we find out in the next movie.

Rey, on the other hand, was abandoned by her parents as a child, and left to fend for herself in a very harsh world. She was clearly a good person with no temptation to the dark side. That makes no sense. It would be nice if we found out why she didn't. Did she have some strong role model or someone loved and cared for her when she was younger? I hope they rectify these inconsistencies in the next movie.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>END OF SPOILERS!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I was so tired this afternoon and tried to nap, but I just rested....

We went to Murphy's for dinner. I always love their lamb chops! It was way too much food, though. We just spent the rest of the evening at home...a nice, quiet night. I did take some nice photos of sunset etc. for Instagram.

I'm trying to talk David into going to Buzz's and Lanikai tomorrow. We would take the bus over (about a half hour) and walk around the beach, take photos etc. (neither of us is really into swimming or tanning) and then have lunch.  We'd take the bus because they have wonderful and very strong mai tais!  We'll see if he feels up to it because he uses the weekend to relax and recharge...

My SIL went to see Trump speak in her town, and she sent us some pics.  They didn't come out that well, though....his face is too blurry from the lights. Too bad.

We all get so impatient with technology, don't we? I mean, why can't all browsers just work well on every site? Why can't I upload photos in my browser to Instagram? (Maybe they don't want us to...) Why don't they allow you to post clickable links? Why can't I post to all social media at once without having to set it up every time or with some kind of app or program that I have to download and install? Why is it that, on my phone, if I click a link to a social media page, sometimes my phone remembers that I already have an account there and it's open, and sometimes it doesn't and asks me to login or sign up? Why don't all phones have a fabulous camera like on iPhones or on regular digital cameras? Why is it so hard for me to find a camera that is really tiny and easy to use, hands-free, yet takes great panoramic pictures or videos (and costs under $100)?   And why are Google Glasses so freakin' expensive? WHY??? LOL! (Whoops, apparently they're no longer selling Google Glass, at least for now. I think the price was at least part of the problem.)

I got a lot of work done tonight... I tried to go to bed a little bit early, but I was not tired enough. I ended up going to bed about 3:30, and then I still had trouble sleeping.

  Saturday January 23, 2016

David woke me up to go to Lanikai, but I was just too tired. I went back to sleep and then we went to lunch at Smith & King around noon. Maybe next weekend we can go! I had a nice salad there. We stopped for a drink at O'Toole's and there was a very nice German Shepherd there with his people. It's always great to see nice dogs and pet them! We both miss our dog so much. O'Toole's is a great place to go on a weekend afternoon because there's almost no one there and the weekend bartender is very nice. He knows us by now... he and I chat all the time about band and guitar stuff. They have bands there on the weekends and I believe he said that he used to be in one.

Now it's just back to work! It's 81 degrees today and 62% humidity, but it doesn't seem nearly as warm as it's been all week. Perhaps the winds are nicer today.

I found out from the security people downstairs that supposedly they did shut off the leak yesterday from apartment 809's leaky condenser.  That's good; hopefully they will fix the ceiling next week, too.

A couple of weeks ago, I tried taking video around town here, on my way to my guitar lessons, with my new mino videocamera. The quality of the camera is great, but I'm afraid my camerawork is shaky. Sorry about that. I will probably try again to get a better quality video. You probably shouldn't watch it if you get nauseous easily.

I'm very tired, but I'm forcing myself to stay away so that I can go to bed early.

We're chatting with our friend Barb in a little while, finally opening those Christmas presents!

We had a good time chatting with her on Skype. She's still getting over her meningitis, so it was very low key. I think we all enjoyed it, though!

We went to Waikiki for dinner as usual and went to Giovanni Pastrami for dinner. I love that place, but I need to stop eating the fattening stuff. I went to bed pretty early and had a really good night's sleep.

  Sunday January 24, 2016

I finally emailed our apartment's owner about the ceiling coming down in the guest bedroom; he doesn't seem too upset about it, so that's good.

We went to Gordon Biersch, down on the harbor, as usual, for lunch. We stopped in at this new place they have there at the Aloha Tower called Nashville Waikiki. It's just a bar, nothing too interesting about it. We watched some of the football game.

I had a little bit of a nap in the afternoon, which I shouldn't have had! I got a lot of work done this weekend ,though, and even found time to practice the guitar.

I ended up with an upset stomach tonight and had trouble sleeping, even though I was very tired. I don't know if it's from gluten, or just over-eating, or eating something spicy. UGH.

Update: OK, it turns out I got very sick from some kind of stomach virus (gastroenteritis). It was a fairly mild one as these things go. I usually get this kind of thing every few years, but this time I didn't vomit and was only mildly nauseous. Thank goodness! I didn't have to go to the ER or urgent care. My stomach just felt very uncomfortable, and when I lie down, I would get a lot of acid and indigestion, and some nausea. I couldn't sleep at all Sunday night because of it, and I spent a lot of time in the bathroom most of Sunday and quite a lot of Monday with diarrhea (sorry to be gross!). I drank a lot of water, though, so as not to be dehydrated so I wouldn't have to go to the ER. It was not fun.

Usually these type of viruses are food-borne and may or may not be the same as food poisoning. Either from contaminated food or water, or from workers who don't wash their hands etc. Since we eat out a lot, that increases the risk of it.

  Monday January 25, 2016

I barely was able to give the dry cleaning to the guy who picks it up and delivers it!  I didn't leave the house until Tuesday evening. I was just tired and sleeping a lot. I didn't do too much other than sleep, watch TV and work a little bit on my site.  It was not a good day!

  Tuesday January 26, 2016

The people up in 809 finally got back from their vacation, so the manager downstairs gave them my number, and they called me. I spoke to the husband of the retired couple that lives there. Funny coincidence, his wife's name is also Suzanne, and he used to make guitars! Anyway, they called this water extraction company to come look at the damage. That company phoned me, and I told their receptionist that I would be home today, since she asked, but that I would need them to call me an hour ahead of time so that I could make sure to move things out of the way (also, I wanted to pick up the house a bit). She never called me back, and I went ahead and cleaned up, anyway, thank goodness, because the men showed up on my doorstep around 4! I was very annoyed, but at least it was clean. I had wanted to also take a shower before they got there. Oh, well.

They were ready to put a fan on it to dry it out, but I said I couldn't authorize anything until I spoke with the owner of the apartment. They did say the damage is not too bad and will be easy to fix. Most of the water has dried, so they just have to get a little bit of it in the wall, ceiling and rug.  Then they can fix the holes.

I finally heard back from the owner of the apartment, and he's coming over tomorrow. The whole thing was very stressful, though, especially since I was still getting over being sick. I had to over-exert myself and worry about a bunch of stuff, plus it was very hot. Anyway, he's coming over tomorrow, and so are the repair guys. I also have my guitar lesson in the afternoon. At least I did get some guitar practicing done, despite being sick.

I hope your week has gone better than mine!

Don't forget to also check out my TV Blog! Both are updated about once a week.
