12/1/14 Chronicles

Friends' blogs

Welcome!

This Week

  Monday 11/24/14

By the time you read this, we'll have all celebrated Thanksgiving already. How was yours?

I got up after 2pm and had to run some errands. I took a package to the post office, went to McDonald's to grab a quick bite, and then picked up David's laptop at the computer place. So glad that's done with, so I don't have to share my computer any more! :)

Then about 4 I was sick from the usual gluten problems. Blah. I

After that, I did some singing and recording. I need to do more!

I wasn't hungry at dinner, so I just went with David over to J.J. Dolan's. I had a soda while I watched him eat some pizza. Pizza always smells good!

I did more singing after dinner. I've been trying to record some Christmas songs and some others. I have to memorize the songs for my band's concert on the 13th.

I tried to go to bed a little bit early, but instead, I just had a 2-hour nap and then was up again.

  Tuesday 11/25/14

I finally went to sleep around 7:30 and slept until 1:30pm. Not good.

After breakfast, I went over to the Safeway to get some things, with my little cart. It was nice today - in the low 70's and windy. Their soda machine was broken for a while, but now it's replaced with a nice new one, so that made me happy.

We went to Murphy's for dinner, and they had specials that we both liked for a change. He likes their liver and onions, and I like their lamb chops. When they have them!

I spent some time today tidying up a bit... I'm sort of "all at sea" as they say, until after Thanksgiving when I can start putting up the Christmas decorations. I can't seem to concentrate on my site or much else.

I spent a lot of my time today going through my songs on iTunes and trying to organize them better. It's hard because I had renamed a lot of files after I got the new computer and so now they all have to be fixed in iTunes, but there's over 11,000, so.... it's a lot. A daunting task, to be sure!

  Wednesday 11/26/14

I got up way too late...had a stomach ache, so I slept in.

I'm a bit annoyed because our building changed some rules and now we have to recycle. I have nothing against recycling, of course. However, we have a trash chute, and the recycling has to be taken downstairs separately and you have to go out into the garage and put it in a special bin (that's really out of the way). We already have to take boxes and glass bottles down there, and now it's cans as well. I object to them just forcing this on us when we have a lease and had signed house rules that said recycling was optional. It's not a BIG deal, just irritating. We've actually never lived anywhere that had mandatory recycling. Which I think is terrible, but I won't do it if not forced to because it's just annoying and inconvenient. This is why I think we need legislation to help the environment. Just because you think something is a good idea, doesn't mean you'll get out of your way to do it, but you may if forced.

Today is my dad's birthday, which is always sad and a bit painful to think about. He would be 93, but of course he's been gone for quite a while. As you probably know, he was not a good father. His birthday is particularly painful because his birthday is a week before mine, and yet he almost never remembered that. It still bothers me, although I guess it shouldn't. I don't know how to let it go.

I went out to check to see if Art's Hideaway is open tonight, so it is and we'll go there later for karaoke. They don't answer the phone, it turns out, if you call from a long distance area code. He gets a lot of spam calls, I guess. I stopped at Long's and Ross as well, to get a few things. I got a basket to put our recycling in.

We went to dinner at The Tap Room, the new place down the street. They had a slightly larger menu tonight. Hopefully they will keep expanding it. They have Kalua Pig that's gluten free, so that's great. It was pretty tasty. They normally serve it on bread, with cheese, and with chips. It's great even without the bread. This is the place that has cupcakes but always runs out of the gluten free ones early, even though they only sell them on Wednesdays.

In a little while, we'll go to Art's, so that should be fun! I hope we're not the only ones there...

We had a great time. There were about a dozen people there, but only a few of us were singing. I sang about 4 songs, and then we left and went to JJ Dolan's for some more drinks. I don't drink that often, or very much, but I was enjoying myself.

We listened to music after we got home, and sang along. It was a nice night. David doesn't have work to tomorrow, so he could have a little more fun than usual!

  Thursday 11/27/14

I got up around 11 and we went to Zippy's for brunch. They made a perfect breakfast. They also had sugar-free pumpkin pie, so that was awesome. I didn't eat the crust so hopefully the rest was gluten free. I'm glad they were open! We did some other walking around after that. We stopped in this bar that we've passed a million times, Hank's, to see what it's like. It's just your average neighborhood bar. It looked like a little bit of a dive from the outside, but it's not bad. They serve food and there's a jazz club above them. They were having some Thanksgiving food for the regulars there, but we just had a couple of drinks and left. They have some nice big TV's for watching sports and the people there were very friendly and chatty.

I was very sleepy after we came home, so I took a nap. It seems like lately, that's all I do: sleep!

Later, we went down to Waikiki and had our Thanksgiving dinner at the Hula Grill. It was pretty good and the view was very nice. We went down there a little bit earlier and managed to catch part of the sunset.  We went to the karaoke booth place that I like, GS Studios, but they were closed. Kelly O'Neal's was open, though, so we stopped in there for some holiday cheer! It was a pretty nice day.

We spent the rest of the evening sitting around, listening to music, and I didn't do anything special. I took the day off work, pretty much. I did some videos of more songs.

Because of the wind, I guess, my allergies have been really bad. My eyes started watering really bad, and then when that happens, my face gets all red and blotchy from wiping the eyes. I take a lot of medication and also I have some pretty good eyedrops, but this was particularly bad. I didn't sleep well.

Before I went to bed (way too late), I took down all of the Thanksgiving decorations. Next thing to do is put those away and get out the others and put them up, and start on the Christmas cards! I like to send them out as soon as possible after Thanksgiving. I have presents to send out, too.

  Friday 11/28/14

My face was awful all day. My eyes were teary and stinging (felt a bit like being stabbed in the eyes) and my face was very red, puffy and sore. I guess I'll have to go to the doctor if it doesn't get better, but it usually does and I'm fairly sure it's just allergies. I've also been really stuffed up. I got some more Sudafed but it didn't help all that much. I keep feeling like I'm sick but I don't have a temperature or anything. My face feels hot and sometimes I feel chilled. UGH. Also, my skin on my face has been really dry and flaky, partly due to wiping my eyes from the allergies and also from having fans blow on me, I guess.

The weather's been really cool, in the 70's and windy, so that's been great. I took a sweater with me to Waikiki yesterday in case it was too cool on the beach. It wasn't there, but when we went to the Irish place, they had the a/c cranked up, so I was very grateful for my sweater!

I spent most of the past two days just messing around on Facebook and Twitter, but tonight I finally did start to do some much needed work on my site. I've been putting that off all week.

I woke up about 9:15, way too early, but my eyes were really bothering me. We went to lunch around 11:30 to Gordon Biersch. I had the fish tacos there, which come with corn tortillas, so I'm pretty sure they're safe. I think the only way I'm really going to lose weight, though, is if we stop eating out so much. I can't eat salads out at most places like I used to because they're just too risky now. If we ate at certain really expensive places I could do it, but that's too much.

We stopped briefly at Long's before heading home, and I went back to sleep for awhile. I felt a little better after that but was bad again later.

Later, we went out to dinner at Epic again. It's the old reliable place LOL! I tried to go to sleep again about 9 but only slept for a few hours before waking up. I felt like I slept a lot, but I'm getting tired again. I just wish I knew if I was really sick or it was just bad allergies. I hate always having that uncertainty. I hope I'm better by next week so it won't affect our rehearsal.

  Saturday 11/29/14

I went to bed pretty early last night, but then I woke up again two hours later and wasn't sleepy. So I finally got to bed again sometime this morning. I woke up around 11:30am this morning, very itchy. We went to lunch at Hooter's again and I got the chicken garden salad that I like. I spent most of the rest of the day working. I started working on the holiday cards.

In the evening, we went with our friends Matthew and Sara to this Mexican restaurant on Waikiki called Bho. I think everyone else liked it more than I did. It was ok. It has a pretty rooftop location. I don't like their tortilla chips. Chips should light, flaky and crispy, but these were not. We shared some appetizers. If you like spicy food, it's probably great. I enjoyed the tacos I had, and the drinks and desserts were good. I'd go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. We had a good time, which was the main thing!

We walked around the mall next to it, the Galleria, a little bit afterwards. It was raining quite hard as we left. Later on it got very rainy and windy. The temperature dropped down to 68! I actually closed the lanai sliding glass door and put on socks....for a little while, anyway! :)

I was pretty tired when we got home, so I went to bed a little after 10, but then AGAIN I woke up two hours later. I was itching quite a lot. I was very tired, but I can't sleep when I'm that itchy. I stayed up until about 4am.

  Sunday 11/30/14

I can't believe November is almost over!

David woke me up around 11:30. We went to Sol de Cuba for lunch. It's always good! Then I went to Walmart and bought some Christmas containers for when I make cookies.

I've been very tired all day, but I don't want to nap any more, so I can stay on this schedule. I know, I keep repeating myself...

My allergies have still been really bad still. My eyes are better once the medicine and drops kick in. The skin on my face near my eyes is still really bad. I keep putting lotion and stuff on it.

Time to go start the laundry and cleaning the place!

The only problem with living in Hawaii is that your friends tend to go back to the mainland for the holidays! We have three couples friends here. One of them went back before Thanksgiving and isn't coming back until sometime in January or February. The other two are very busy this time of year and are also going away around Christmas day and won't be back until sometime in early January. Another friend is gone for Thanksgiving, but my guess is she'll also be gone for Christmas. I want to go to the mall shopping (just for fun), but I don't want to go by myself, and David hates shopping. I'm trying to get one of my friends to go with me, but they're so busy :)

We went to our usual Sunday night dinner place, Downbeat Diner. It's always great there.

All of the TV shows that my husband and I usually watch together have been in re-runs this week, so he just spends his free time on his laptop, while I do something else. I had literally a mountain of laundry, so I did that, and I dusted our bedroom, and straightened it up. Our vacuum is still not working very well, so I swept the carpet (it's not a very deep one) and then used the vacuum on it, and then I picked up any other pieces of paper or whatever I saw after that. I also cleaned the mirrors in our bedroom. All of that was quite a bit of work and me very hot and sweaty (I'm so out of shape!). Then I took a shower and did work on my laptop.

After the laundry is done, I'm going to bed and it will still be before midnight, so that's good. As long as I don't wake up in the middle of the night again!

I straightened up the bathrooms a little; later I'll actually clean them. I stayed awake until about 11 and couldn't make it past that.

Have a great week!
