Latest Post - This Week
This has been a stressful, hard week, so I wasn't very good at keeping up on the blog. I will probably only have a few details.
I slept in a bit. I really need to keep getting up earlier.
I had hoped to get my flu shot today, but it didn't work out. Hopefully I can get it tomorrow!
I forgot to mention, a few weeks ago, Brandy and I were out walking, and it was close to dark. We just came around the bend, down at the end of the cul-de-sac, and Brandy was pulling over to the grass area (which she often does), and I just happened to see, out of the corner of my eye, a big snake! Fortunately, it slithered into the grass, and we went the other way. I came very close to stepping on it. Yikes! Brandy wanted to chase it. She was very excited.
A web site that was around a long time, BuddyTV, shut down! They were one of my site's MANY competing sites. They started in 2005. Well, unlike my site, they were a fully-funded business, but that's true of most of my competitors. I don't have any funding, and I'm not going to take out any loans. Too risky. Anyway, it's sad that the site is gone. I guess they got rich, since they got bought out.
Today is Columbus Day, so there was no mail. It's also Thanksgiving in Canada.
I wanted to post an animated GIF on my site for the holidays, but it had this annoying thing on the bottom right hand corner that I didn't like. I used this free tool to crop it. Very easy and handy! I love free and easy tools like this.
I worked quite a lot today and stayed up too late.
School was fine today... Trisha gave me a ride in. David is in Camden today, so he doesn't know exactly when he'll be back. I need to stick around school so he can give me a ride home, whenever he's done. I could have paid Trisha to give me a ride home, but since she moved farther away, she charges a lot more per ride. I don't mind hanging out for a while...
I wore my new T-shirt, which has all the women in the Marvel Universe, and it says "Fight Like a Girl."
I had a blog assignment due in my Reporting and Writing for Mass Media class, but I didn't have too much time write it before class. I was having trouble finding what I wanted to find. I finally got something together during class, and it worked out. I think most of the students do theirs right before class. I prefer to write them the night before and not have to worry about them. That way I can put as much work or time into it as I want.
It rained quite a bit this afternoon and all evening.
I had lunch at Chick-Fil-A, since I was in later, anyway. I was actually sick quite a lot today (probably from what I ate on the weekend before the football game). I should probably not eat at Chick-Fil-A because I often get sick after eating there (from the gluten).
I really need someone to help me with Wordpress who knows it very well and can help me with editing the theme....I put out an ad, so I'm just waiting to see if anyone will help me.
David came back around 4, just in time to take me over to get my flu shot at my doctor's office. They said it might hurt a little, but I didn't get any pain from it. Poor David suffered a bit for a while after he got his.
I'm going to be interviewed next week by Lynda Hirsch, who's a nationally syndicated columnist! She writes about TV (mostly soaps) and used to be on a successful TV morning show in Cleveland. I used to read her column in the paper. I'm quite honored that she wants to interview me. She says she likes my site and wants to talk about how I do so much. Ha ha, I don't know if I can answer that last question. No sleep?
I got up about 10. I had another phone interview at 1 with the contestants of "The Voice" that were chosen with last night's blind auditions. It was very interesting, even though I don't watch the show. Usually Krista, another volunteer on my site, does these calls, but she's out of town.
I was very tired all day, and I was sick a lot from the gluten reasons, and I took a nap.
I got a telephone survey about local elections. The woman was very nice, but she was talking way too fast and stumbling over her words. I guess they have an amendment on the ballot to open up a few more casinos.
Trisha can't take me to school tomorrow....she's sick. Fortunately, David has a clear morning schedule, so he's going to come back and get me around 9.
I made these GF, low carb mozzarella sticks. Not bad!
I stayed up pretty late because of too much napping. It's been a stressful and busy week, for a number of reasons. I haven't even had much time to sing, and I'm still eating badly.
Happy National Coming Out Day!
I got up at 8, had breakfast and got ready for school. When I woke up, I was very stuffed up. I think it's just allergies, but this is the second time this week that I woke up like that. UGH.
We finally have our Fall weather. It was in the 60's and 70's today. Very nice! I wore a long sleeve shirt, but it was still a little too warm for me. It was cool-ish in the morning, though.
I got a soda and went to my marketing class. I got there early and had a nice chat with Krystal, one of the older people in our class. Our class was pretty boring, with one of the presentations. I had trouble staying awake.
I asked the professor after class why the test we had on Sunday was 137 points, when it was supposed to be 100, according to our syllabus. He said that he had read a pedagogical thing that said students won't complain about their grades if the points are an unusual number. Wow! I mentioned to him that my second try at the test didn't count because I didn't realize it was due Sunday afternoon. He said that it was supposed to be due Sunday evening. He's going to look into it. I hope I get my second grade, which is much better than the first one. That will make me very happy.
Later on, I looked up my grades and found that I only missed 4 on the second test, so that's 97% or 133 points, which is great. Looks like we also got a 94 on our presentation, so that's not bad.
I had a nice chat with the ladies at lunch. My stomach was not feeling very good, so I didn't eat. It was probably just leftover from being sick the last two days. I brought some of my site's business cards for them, and we chatted about my site. That's always fun!
I warmed up before my voice lesson, but I was so very tired! Not as bad as last week, when I'd had NO sleep, though. I always enjoy the lessons because the teacher is very nice, and we have a lot in common. Unfortunately, we tend to chatter a lot, so it kind of cuts into my singing instruction. It turns out he's a comic book fan, and a fan of the comic book TV shows, so we chatted a lot about that, and about my interview with "The Voice" contestants.
We started on my second song, "O Holy Night." It went pretty well. I forgot to record it, though. I was hoarse afterwards. Perhaps from allergies, or from straining my voice, or from not practicing enough during the week, or a combination of these things...
I rushed over to my Mass Comm class, and again I had to write the article blog due today. It's just a short assignment, thankfully, and I write fast.
David had a meeting, so I went to Chick-Fil-A again to get a late lunch, and some for him as well.
He drove me home, and I walked Brandy not too long after that. It was pretty nice out. There are some trucks from the electric company (Entergy) parked in our cul-de-sac. I wonder what's up?
I had a little nap in the afternoon...I was tired.
I didn't get too much done today after I got home.
I'm still trying to get through the shows on my DVR.
I was tired and went to bed about 11.
I've got some more interviews next week.... there may be 4! They really run hot and cold.
I woke up around 4am and was itching, couldn't get back to sleep. Brandy was in the bed with me and she was itching a lot, too. I got up and gave her some Benadryl. Her eyes were also very watery. Poor dog!
I had breakfast - just cooked up some bacon to finish up the package. I used my new bacon press that I bought, and it worked well.
I went back to sleep around 8 and slept until about 12:30. I walked Brandy. It was pretty nice outside.
The Entergy trucks came back and were in our cul-de-sac for a while. Then, about 10 till 3, our power went out, for about 20 minutes. I called Mary next door to see what they were doing. She said that her lights had been flickering, so she called them. They found that fire ants had chewed through some wires. So after that, I got got dressed and then went over to talk to the workmen, who had parked one of their trucks in our driveway without asking. I said, "Hey, you guys knocked out our power! What's going on?" I said it nicely, though. There were 3 men in a hole, and one of them explained that it shouldn't take too long and that I should be patient, which I found to be a kind of a rude answer. I said that I was concerned about the food in my fridge going bad. He said it should be fine. I said, as politely as I could muster, "So, you don't let people know when you're going to cut their power?" and he replied that someone was supposed to call me to let me know (I think he said "D.O.C.," but I don't know what that is). I said, well, no one did, and I left. I got no apology or anything. The power came on a few minutes later, then went off again, and came back on again. Hopefully it will stay on. I called Entergy to let them know that I wasn't really happy about all of this. Hopefully they gave them a stern reprimand, at least. If you work with the public, you should know how to act with people, and not be rude.
When I spoke with Mary, I asked her about whether she could get online again or not. She's able to get into her computer, but she hasn't yet gotten back on Facebook and is having some problems, so I might go over there tomorrow. That jerk of a computer tech support guy from a few weeks ago charged her $110, and he didn't even fix the problems.
I keep a grocery list (two pages - one for me and one for him), pre-typed, and I just circle items we need, or add things as needed. Much easier. It's very efficient. We split up when we go to the grocery store and each get what's on our list.
I tried to take another nap, but I really wasn't that tired...
I got really busy this weekend and didn't keep up on the blog. We had a pretty relaxing weekend, though.
We went to Flying Burger for lunch. It's usually pretty good, and I can eat pretty healthy there. It's pretty nice outside today, just a little cool. It's in the 60's...not bad.
We took the vacuum cleaner in to be repaired...hopefully it will be done soon. The cleaning lady, Yolanda, told me, when I texted her about coming again, that the vacuum cleaner didn't work well last time. Apparently it overheats really easy and shuts off.
It rained all evening...
Saturdays we always record America's Top 40 with Casey Kasem from the SiriusXM 70's on 70's channel (we have it on DISH). It's always fun and a nice way to kill a couple of hours. I like most songs from the 60's to 80's, but my husband is very picky and mostly prefers just certain songs from about 1972-1978. Tonight it was 1973. This Cheech and Chong song "Basketball Jones" - I don't think I've heard it since back then, 45 years ago!
I spent a long time surfing the net, especially Amazon, to try to figure out what I want to wear this year for Halloween. I didn't lose the weight I wanted to lose, so I need something that's not too revealing, not too tight, comfortable, and preferably one that is not going to be too hot because it tends to be pretty warm on Halloween. I bought this Little Red Riding Hood costume because it's literally the only one I liked. If I lose weight before next year, there are several superhero costumes I could get, but I don't want to be a fat one again, like I did a few years back with Supergirl. I would love to do Catwoman, or Batgirl, or Wonder Woman (maybe), or the mom in The Incredibles. Next year, I hope! I am ever-hopeful. :)
We went to Java Primo for lunch. I hadn't had breakfast, so I ate there, which is probably a mistake, since their food usually makes me sick. I had their bison burger, with no bun. It was really good.
As usual, we went to the Wal-Mart for our groceries after lunch.
Later on, David had tacos at Antigua's while I just had a soda.
You know how sometimes you wonder something, and you start looking it up online, and that leads to looking up other stuff...I can't remember what I was looking up originally, or why, but I found out that pumpkins, cucumbers, chili peppers and beans are all fruit, not vegetables! Wow!!
I've mostly been working on my site, and doing a little schoolwork, and trying to keep the house clean. The usual! I have a new volunteer who's going to hopefully make my new Wordpress site look good.
It was a fairly nice, relaxing weekend. I'm hoping that sometime this week, I can put up the rest of my Halloween decorations.
