Sugar Plums

This is from a booklet about Christmas called "Welcoming the Holidays" put out by the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

I have cut the recipe in half but you might want to cut it in half again as it makes a huge amount.

Chop the following ingredients finely in a food processor:

1/2 lb. figs

1/2 lb. dates

1/2 lb. raisins

1/2 lb. currents

1/2 lb. blanched almonds

1/4 lb. walnuts

1/4 lb. pecans

1/2 lb. unsalted shelled pistachio nuts

1/4 shredded coconut

1/4 lb. crystallized ginger

grated rind and juice from 1/2 a lemon and an orange

Combine this mixture (best to use your hands) with 1 Tablespoon sherry and 1/2 oz. orange or peach brandy.  Mix thoroughly.

For full flavor, store in covered tin for one week in the refrigerator.

Create a sugar plum tree by placing sugarplums on toothpicks and inserting into styrofoam tree form until tree is completely covered.

Enjoy!
